Irregularities

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to reduce the appearance of dents and scratches on my hardwood floors?

Mirage has touch-up kits for minor repairs available for purchase online. The kits include a buffer, a marker, a wax crayon, and a small bottle of polyurethane finish. Instructions are indicated on each product. Board replacement should be considered for more substantial repairs. Use our Mirage dealer locator to find a dealer who can provide a reliable reference craftsman reference near you.

Why are the planks on my Engineered floor swolen?

Excessive humidity causes the swelling of hardwood floor boards. In wet conditions, an Engineered floor is more stable than a solid wood floor, but the relative humidity must still be controlled. Before installing a wood floor, it is important to check the moisture content in the subfloor as well as the relative humidity of the room. Both must be within the recommended limits and remain so throughout the year. To measure the humidity, use a hygrometer. You will then be able to determine if special measures are needed and, if so, what steps need to be taken.

How can you explain that my floor is noisy?

There is more than one reason that can cause crackling and noises of a hardwood floor. If the subfloor is not securely fastened to the joists or the material used is inadequate, the floor may creak. Noise can also come from inadequate nailing of planks. Other causes such as too high or low humidity, inadequate accessories, movements, and others could cause noise.

Can I replace one damaged board?

Individual boards can also be replaced without having to remove the entire floor, which is why we suggest keeping leftover wood in case you need it.
